Every member of our Guild is invited to contribute to Community Service.

Each year we donate quilts, Christmas Stockings, pillowcases, and other items to organizations that help children, teenagers and adults in transition. We donate to pediatric and neo natal units in hospitals, and to other charitable organizations dear to the hearts of our members.

Members may make any of the above items at home using their own stash, or at each Guild meeting may pick up quilt  kits that include fabric, batting and a pattern. Members can choose to do an entire quilt, or any part. For example, kits are available for cutting and piecing, or quilting, or binding only.

Here are pictures from some of our Community Service workshops.

Sutter Breast Cancer Auction

Many of our members donated quilts to the Sutter Cancer Center's Breast Cancer Quilt Auction. Auctions are held every three years; the fourth Quilt Auction was held in November 2008 and the next will be in 2011.

Many of the quilts were shown on the Breast Cancer auction web site, along with information about the auction and how to bid on a quilt.

The idea originated in 1999 when the River City Quilters Guild and Sutter Cancer Center co-sponsored a quilt auction that raised more than $57,000. In 2002 the auction raised over $110,000. The 720 quilts auctioned in 2005 raised over $150,496 for the Sutter breast cancer research and treatment programs.
