Quilt Camp

Mt. Hope Quilt Camp

Pioneer Quilters go to Quilt Camp two times a year – once in the  spring and once in the autumn- among a beautiful setting of Mt. Hope  Conference Center near Forbestown, CA.  Campers enjoy socializing, sewing  activities, games and delicious meals prepared by Mt Hope staff.

2021 Dates:  Spring, May 3-7, 2022

Quilt Camp is  FUN! You bring your projects with you, can collaborate with other campers, share, and have great food you don't have to make yourself.  There are hiking  trails and a large grassy area that is fantastic for taking a catnap,  reading or just enjoying some fresh air.   We all sew together in the new Chapel.  We have lots of room; each person has a whole table, with extra room for cutting and laying out  projects.

If you have never been to Quilt Camp, it’s highly recommended!

Complete the online  form (below), Then send your check or  bring it to a guild meeting.  The cost is:

  • 4 days, sharing a room:  $300
  • 4 days, single room:  $350

For more information about camp, or for help completing the form, please contact quiltcamp@pioneerquiltersguild.org or call Bobbie Paclik or Nancy Colwell.

Camp Meals and Accommodations

Accommodations

The sleeping accommodations are in several air-conditioned/heated  8-room dormitories. Each dorm room has a sink and mirror and accommodates 2 or 3  women comfortably on single beds (depending on whether trundles are  used), but campers can request a single occupancy room. The indoor restrooms and shower facilities are clean, roomy, and shared (but  relatively private). You will need to bring your own bedding, towels,  and toiletries. Have fun and dress up your bed with a quilt!

Camp Meals

Meals are provided twice a day (10 am and 5 pm) and are delicious and  plentiful. Coffee, tea, and hot water are available all day. Fresh water  is supplied as well. Feel free to bring a snack to share! A  refrigerator is available to store items that need to keep  cool.

Activities

Camp Activities & Things to Remember

Activities: Bring your projects to work on, as well as whatever you need to make a comfortable work station for yourself - plus a great attitude and readiness to  have fun! The conference center is located in a wooded area with hiking  trails around the grounds that you may want to explore. There is a large  grassy area adjacent to our sewing room, which is very conducive to  catnaps, reading, or conversation.

Other Activities:   for Spring 2022 camp

Fabric Raffle –To participate, bring at least one quilt shop quality* fat quarter. For each fat quarter you put in the basket, you get one ticket to win a curated bundle of those fat quarters. The fabric theme for this camp’s raffle is large floral prints from any designer for Free Spirit fabrics (Anna Maria, Kaffe Fasset, Tula Pink, Philip Jacobs, Valori Wells are some examples).

Fabrics for playing "31" –   You will need three fat quarters for the 31 game:
modern stripes or dots. Quilt shop quality* fabrics only!

Left, Right, Center games – This is a fast-paced dice game with strips of fabrics as our stakes. We play two games because they go fast! You don’t have to play both games, but you’ll be hooked after one.

Game 1:  You’ll need three different 2 ½” by WOF strips of quilt shop quality* fabric that generally read as cool colors (blue, green, light purple or a combination of these).

Game 2: You’ll need three different 2 ½” by WOF strips of quilt shop quality*fabric that generally read as warm colors (red, orange, yellow or a combination of these).

*Quilt shop quality fabrics are those that are available at any quilt shop rather than those typically found at Joann’s, Hobby Lobby or Tuesday Morning.

Pincushion:  if you want to make a really cute and easy pincushion for yourself (or anyone else) bring a small bit of a favorite fabric and a matching button. We’ll have the instructions and additional supplies to make them.

Special guest:  On Thursday during camp. Villa Rosa quilt shop in Grass Valley is bringing a mini store to US! We’re thrilled that they can make it.

Things to remember:

  • Our contract with Mt. Hope  Conference Center binds us to their tenets which state no smoking or alcohol is allowed at Mt. Hope – indoors or outdoors.
  • The soil around the conference  center is reddish and abundant. If you go for a hike, be sure to bring  shoes that won’t be ruined by the red soil.
  • Be respectful of your fellow quilting campers in both the sewing and dorm areas.
  •  Wi-Fi is available with the  appropriate password, which is provided to campers.  Cell phones work  sporadically at camp, usually only if it’s been configured (with your  cell phone carrier, in advance) for Wi-Fi calling.  A landline is  available for local calls and calls home in the 916 and 530 area codes..
